Gotta love the nikes I'm skating in the Mavrk mids right now and I love them The sole of the shoe has a pretty sharp edge all the way around the bottom and it really locks your feet on the board. Love em for downhill, plus they're mids and very well padded so when you wipe out going fast around the corners you don't knock up your ankles.

erm, try vans old school slip-ons. they're 40 bucks, look sweet, and have the totally brutal vulcanized sole with sharp, hard edges.

any of you guys skate in just regular nike or adidas sneakers? I guess they're considered "lifestyle" sneakers, not beefed up and padded like skateboarding ones, but still have a flat bottom. I find that most of the skateboard sneakers are too wide (except ones like the vans slip-ons you guys mentioned). I'm just looking for new sneaks once i'm able to skate again... and want to go with nike or adidas - my 2 favorite brands

Well, longboarding isn't quite so hard on shoes as regular skateboarding is. Unless you foot brake a lot. You should be fine though.
